Last week a new law was passed in France (by 62 votes to 1, excluding abstentions) banning children under the age of 16 from using smartphones, tablets or other internet-connected devices at school.

Commenting on the law which will come into effect from 1 Sep this year, Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer said, “We know today that there is a phenomenon of screen addiction, the phenomenon of bad mobile phone use… Our main role is to protect children and adolescents. It is a fundamental role of education, and this law allows it.”
