According to research published in the Geophysical Research journal in 2008, measurements of nitrogen trifluoride levels in the atmosphere far exceeded industry’s claim that only 2% was released. Estimates put it closer to 16% and increasing dramatically, as reported by Scientific American.

Nitrogen trifluoride (NF3) is used in the chambers in which silicon chips are made so think twice before getting the next electronic upgrade. (And because NF3 is also present in many solar products make sure to opt for those which don’t have it.)

Why? Because according to this information NH3 emmissions have 17,000 times the impact on the planet than carbon dioxide (four times higher than previous estimates)…
